I stood up from the bench I'd been sitting on for what felt like an et

I stood up from the bench I'd been sitting on for what felt like an eternity as I finally heard the rumbling of a train in the distance. I was here, at the train station of the small town I called home awaiting the arrival of a very close girlfriendwho had moved a couple of hours away to London a year ago. I missed her so much since she'd moved, as for twenty years prior to this we had been inseparable. Doing each others pigtails and swapping dolls clothes as kids, sharing pampering evenings by candle light and talking endlessly about whoever was our latest pop, movie or TV idol as teenagers, then sharing each others ups and downs, trials and tribulations as we progressed into adulthood. We truly were like peas in a pod and as the train pulled gently to a stop I was bubbling with excitement at seeing her again.
I didn't have to wait too long, as she quicklybounded off the train along the platform, straight into my arms. As we started to walk out of the train station towards my house she was full of excitement babbling loudly about her new found life in the Capital, the clubs, the pubs, the shows, the gorgeous new office she worked in and in particular how much better london dating was compared to here. Keen to back up her statement of how much better the dating was she quickly asked how my love life was, knowing full well that I wasn't having much luck on the subject. Still I felt the need to defend myself and my poor little town:
'Well, it's just that I'm being careful, waiting for the right one like' I said.
'Yeah' She laughed 'Well your never gonna find Matthew in this town are ya!'
I smiled knowing full well she was talking about Matthew Fox, my all time idol since I'd been old enough to think with my hormones! She had a point admittedly, but I wasn't likely to find him anywhere, thats what having an idol is all about, you idolise them but never actually come into contact with them. Or their most incredibly beautiful girlfriend that they're bound to be having meals by candle light with instead of you!
As we both walked arm in arm up my front path, I looked at her, thinking how much we had both grown from the little girls we used to be hanging around the playground together with the silly tittle tattle of 'I'm gonna get you done' and 'I'll be your best friend if....' along with 'I'm his girlfriend, not you!'...... We'd come a far far way, yet still seemed to hold the same strong relationship we always did.
I knew immediately that even a year on from last seeing her this evening would be just like old times, pampering each other by candle light, talking endlessly about guys and fashion, only letting the boring bits like work and houses trickle into the conversation in tiny amounts. Some friendships disappear, some go stale and some are never that great anyway, but I knew this one would stay fantastic forever.
